About the book

The Girl in the Mirror: A Memoir of Losing Myself and Finding Home What happens when the person staring back at you in the mirror feels like a stranger? Kelly lived behind a smile, carrying silent battles that no one else could see. Beneath the surface were anxiety, trauma, grief, self doubt, and the exhausting pressure to keep pretending everything was okay. The Girl in the Mirror is an honest and deeply personal memoir about losing yourself and slowly finding your way home again. Through 43 heartfelt chapters, Kelly shares the moments that shaped her life: the little girl who longed to be enough, the weight of invisible struggles, the courage to ask for help, the people who stayed, the ones who didn't, and the small victories that eventually became a new beginning. This isn't a story about having all the answers. It's about choosing hope, one day at a time.

Kelly was right - I DID recognise myself within the words. Kelly held my hand through my own long buried experiences and with gentle compassion walked with me as we moved through them from a fresh viewpoint. Since completing the memoir I am kinder to myself - I no longer sit in a place of shame and guilt. I am not as angry - I laugh more. I am learning to choose ME.

I got the preview of the book as a early reader on the early shelf. I genuinely have very few words to de how I feel after reading the preview. I simply can't fathom that whether I'm in awe or heartbreak. The courage Miss kelly has is extremely commendable. Going to such trauma and healing takes toll and the way she writes it makes you feel it everywhere . I felt the words. The preview was very very touching and I know that she got her happy end, I just want to read them in her own words . Nevertheless, The book is a great and touching read. I loved it!

Hello! I've read your your excerpt of the book you wrote, and honestly, I've never felt so proud! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved how refreshing it was to read, so emotional, so... Personal. The mirror, the hair dye, the journey from before to after. It's all very specific yet it didn't trigger me, I felt as though I saw a person who's been through the worst moment of their life, try to get through it. I loved it! Thank you so much for writing such beautiful memoir.

This book speaks so honestly about trauma and what it does to one's whole personality. The part where she talks about changing the colour of one's hair but still looking in the mirror is not someone new but still you that resonated so much. Overall a beautiful, and honest read that healing takes a lot of time and doesn't happen overnight and the version of you after is not the old you but a stronger and resilient new you.

A beautiful and powerful story I did not know I needed.I have never been a very keen non fiction reader but the way I appreciated and felt the words written by Kelly is not something words could capture... All I wish to say is that this story spoke to my soul and I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND it to everyone!

What hooked you? I found myself nodding along to a lot of Kelly's story and trying not to cry. I see a lot of me in this book and the mirror. What didn't work for you? Who would you recommend this to? Anyone who feels like they are fighting alone. Sometimes it takes another person sharing to understand your not alone Your overall impression Heartbreaking but beautiful

Girl in the Mirror is a raw, honest memoir that doesn't let you look away. The writing is unflinching but never gratuitous, trusting readers enough to sit with difficult moments instead of softening them. This isn't a story dressed up for effect; it's someone genuinely reckoning with who they were, who they are, and the distance in between. There's real narrative momentum too, reading less like scattered memories and more like a journey. By the end, you feel like you've walked alongside the author through it. Highly recommend for anyone who values truth. This one earns its title.

Author thank-yous & replies

Hearing that you’re learning to choose yourself, laugh more and let go of some of that shame and guilt means everything to me. That is exactly why I wrote this book, not to tell anyone how to heal but to remind them that they aren't alone. Thank you for trusting my story enough to see pieces of your own in it!

Thank you so much for this beautiful and thoughtful review. You've captured something that was so important for me to share: healing doesn't happen overnight, and we don't always become the person we were before. Instead, we learn to carry our experiences, grow through them and become a different version of ourselves. Thank you for seeing that in my story and for taking the time to share what it meant to you. Knowing that my words resonated with you in this way is something I will never take for granted.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. Your words honestly mean more to me than I can explain. Knowing that you saw parts of yourself in my story and found yourself reflected in the mirror is exactly why I felt I needed to share it. I know how lonely it can feel when you're fighting battles that nobody else can see, so knowing that my story helped you feel a little less alone means absolutely everything to me. Thank you for reading, for opening your heart to my story and for reminding me why sharing it was so important.
